Chapter 1 - Intro and culture

There are so much urban parks and there is a lot of different ethnicity and different activity. Public spaces have codes, which will help manage an open space and keep the Cultural values and help us understand why it’s like that. There are not a lot of ways to keep the cultural diversity from happening. There is also sustainability to preserve the natural orders while adding things such as art and further enhance the space. No matter if it’s sustaining or having cultural diversity the urban parks are the place to be when it all happens
There are two types of sustainability that put the urban spaces to good use; one is social sustainability which allows the urban spaces like parks to preserve some history and culture, which brings in a number of diversity populations to the space. David Throsby brought up three critical dimensions, one is it we want to keep culture, and it must be preserved. Another one is to have an understanding of cultural ecosystem and third is cultural diversity, in order to have a better understanding of the place; in order to get a better picture you will have to understand it can be enhanced, changed, even improved to help better understand cultural ecosystem (Low p. 7-8). Culture is a big park but in order to get a better understanding of the park, it’s crucial to get a better understanding of the culture behind the space.
Cultural values is important it tells a lot about a person, it’s always there to help out the people, and every one relies on cultural values to help them be themselves in this society. It comes from knowledge and experience and mainly belief.
This helps shape up a park or space cause it,
An indication of what people think and feel about a landscape such as a park or heritage site, they can act as a guide to understanding parks use and disuse, place attachment, or lack of it, and symbolic meanings (Low 15).
To have a historical site or a park to function properly cultural values becomes really important.
I believe that culture is a big part in urban spaces; there are a lot of places that can give you so much information about a specific culture. It’s always a good thing that bring all the people together and all that have different beliefs and view of things. I believe that preserving the culture is hard but it’s helpful when culture is all around the urban spaces so it can never disappear.
